Unlike wood, glass, plastic laminates or gel-coated, cultured marble that can be easily damaged, our cutting boards are a man-made, solid surface acrylic. The color and pattern continue through the depth of the material. They have a luxurious elegance, are tough and stain resistant. The non-porous solid construction helps avoid the effects of time and hard use with nothing more than day-to-day cleaning. Non-porous, non absorbent, resistant to bacteria. Dishwasher safe.
What are the benefits of solid surface Trivets & Cutting Boards?
What are the benefits of solid surface Trivets & Cutting Boards?
- They are easy to care for and keep looking new. Because they durable and able to withstand the most stubborn stains. Easy to repair if accidentally cut or marred. Non-porous, so there is less worry about germs and bacteria. They are dishwasher safe. AND they can be used as a cold serving tray after refrigeration.
- Absolutely! Solid Surface make great cutting board because of their non porous properties. It is approved for use in food service areas, and is resistant to staining and bacteria. When used as a cutting board, knives will leave a fine cut line on the surface. This line continues to be non porous as the product is solid all the way through. It does not need to be treated with oil (like wood), and is dishwasher safe for a thoroughly clean and sanitized surface.
- Maintaining sharp knives depends mostly on the skill of the user. Solid Surface is a man made material. It is slightly harder than wood, but softer than the glass or granite boards. The amount of pressure between the knife edge and the board determines the resilience of the blade edge. If cutting hard through the meat or vegetable, and utilizing the board as the stop for the knife--it could impact the blade. Hard chopping or whacking on the board with a knife could dull a blade. Electric knives will scratch the surface deeper, but can be sanded out (see scratches and cuts below).
- Yes, a pot taken off the stove or a pan from the oven is OK. The material will displace the heat, keeping the surface below safe. For very extreme temperatures, place a hot pad between your pan and the board.
- Put it in the Dishwasher or wash with normal soap/dish detergent and dry. All items we make go in the Dishwasher making them easy clean up (except dog/cat bowls and key holder).
- Solid Surface is resistant to stains. It is essentially non porous and non staining. Product technical data documents over 100 different types of chemicals and foods which will not stain Solid Surface if cleaned up within 16 hours. However, it has been our experience each pattern of the material has a slightly different composition, and occasionally, staining may occur. When staining does occur, the first effort should be to clean with soap and water. Cleaning products like Soft Scrub w/ bleach (use caution as this will bleach clothing and rags) have penetrated the stain. If dishwasher is available, place Trivet/Cutting Board on bottom rack and run through regular dish cycle. The board can also be soaked in a bleach water solution (4:1, water:bleach). If stain persists, follow instruction for scratches and cut marks. (see below).
- Solid Surface is durable, but will get scratches from regular use, and cut marks will occur when used as cutting board. Unlike cheaper plastic cutting boards, Solid Surface typically leaves a fine cut line the same you would get when using a wood cutting board. It is a surface cut, and does not fray or open the product. Solid Surface is just that, "Solid" all the way through. Light marks can usually be polished away with a dry Scotch-Brite pad (green). Deeper knife marks can easily be removed with a random orbital sander using 120 grit followed by 220 grit, then polished with dry Scotch-Brite. We recommend that you do not use an electric knife on your board.
- Solid surface is durable, but not indestructible. Be careful not to lessen their fall with your foot (as it is the natural tendency, but can break toes--we know). The material is not likely to shatter if dropped, but it may chip or a piece may break off. Super glue can be used to re-secure broken pieces, but will leave a crack line and weaker area. Even solid surface cutting boards can be damaged by certain strong household chemicals. Be sure to wipe up spills and flush with water immediately. Do not allow contact with liquids such as paint remover, paint brush cleaner, nail polish and nail polish remover, acid or other such substances.
